Turn a Word resume or CV into a PDF, then shrink it if needed
A PDF opens the same on every screen and cannot be reflowed by accident, which is why most employers ask for a resume as a PDF. If yours is a Word .docx file, choose it below, pick A4 or Letter pages and convert. A CV works the same way.
The conversion uses a basic layout. Headings, bold and italic text, lists, tables and pictures are kept, but fonts, columns, headers and footers, text boxes and exact spacing are simplified. A plain one-column resume usually comes out well. A designed template with sidebars or icons may not, and for that Word's own Save as PDF gives a more exact result.
Only .docx files open here. A resume saved as .doc, or one in Pages or another format, should be saved or exported as .docx first. Check the finished PDF page by page before you send it, especially page breaks and any table.
Job portals often limit uploads. If yours says the file must be under 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB, run the PDF through Compress PDF to 500KB, 1MB or 2MB. A resume of a page or two with no photo is usually small already.
This is a basic conversion, not a copy of Word's layout. Fonts that are not available are replaced, and compressing afterwards turns pages into pictures, so the text can no longer be selected or searched. Compress only if a size limit makes you.
Word to PDF is free and needs no account. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Not directly. Open it in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx, then convert it here.
Not always. The layout is rebuilt in a simple form, so check the result. For a designed template, use Save as PDF in Word itself.
Compress the PDF afterwards to 500 KB, 1 MB or 2 MB with the links above. Check the result is still readable.
No. The conversion happens in your browser and the file stays on your device.
