About this task

A4 documents printed on Letter paper, or the other way round, can lose their margins or print at an odd scale. Putting the pages onto Letter first gives you a file that matches the paper in the printer and the size a US or Canadian form expects.

Each page is scaled to fit inside the Letter sheet, keeping its proportions, and centred. A margin is optional, orientation can follow each page, and you can choose to shrink big pages without enlarging small ones.

Pages are placed as vector content, so text stays sharp and selectable.

Resized pages are static copies: links and form fields stop working on them, and pages with a different shape get empty space on two sides rather than being cropped.

How to do it

  1. Choose your PDF.
  2. Check that Letter is selected, then choose the orientation and a margin if you want one.
  3. Press Resize PDF.
  4. Download the new PDF and look through the pages.

Resize PDF pages is free and needs no account. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Will A4 pages fit on Letter?

Yes. A4 is a little taller and narrower than Letter, so the page is scaled slightly to fit and has a thin empty strip at the sides.

Can I use legal size instead?

Yes. Open Resize PDF and choose Legal, A3, A5 or a custom size.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is resized in your browser.
