About this task

100 KB is one of the most common limits you meet on upload forms: many government and university portals, job applications and scholarship forms ask for a supporting document under 100 KB. It is large enough for a page or two of scanned text, and too small for a photo-heavy brochure.

What decides success is how much is on each page. A scan of printed text on a plain background compresses well. A page with a full-colour photo, a stamp or a shadowed phone picture of the paper compresses badly because every pixel carries noise. If you are photographing a page, taking the picture in even light and holding the phone square to the paper gives the compressor much less to fight with.

For reference, 100 KB is 102,400 bytes in DocPro. A few portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so if your file is rejected by a hair, set the target to 95 and run it again.

Pages are re-saved as pictures, so selectable text and links are lost. For long documents the tool may not reach 100 KB; it lowers quality, then resolution, tells you the closest size it reached, and keeps your original untouched.

How to do it

  1. Choose your PDF below. A password-protected file asks for its password on your device.
  2. The target is already set to 100 KB. Change the number if your form uses a different limit.
  3. Press Compress PDF and wait while each page is re-rendered. Longer documents take longer.
  4. Check the Before and After sizes. If the result is still over 100 KB, try a larger target or fewer pages, then download.

Compress PDF is a DocPro Pro tool on the web. You can open it, choose your file and set every option without an account; the final step asks you to sign in to DocPro Pro (A$5.99/month after a 7-day free trial, cancel anytime). Free tools never ask.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages fit in 100 KB?

There is no fixed number. As a rule of thumb, divide 100 KB by the page count: 1 to 3 pages of plain text is comfortable, while 20 pages leaves about 5 KB each and will look soft.

Will the text still be readable?

Usually for body text on short documents. Very small print can blur because resolution is lowered to hit the target. Open the result and check before you submit.

Do I need an account?

You can try the tool without one; the final compress step is a Pro feature on the web. Your file stays on your device in either case.
