A PDF that stops opening is usually damaged in one of a few ways: a download that was cut short, a broken index that tells the reader where the pages are, or a few bad objects inside an otherwise good file. Some of these can be repaired, and some cannot.
DocPro tries three methods in order. It rewrites the file with qpdf, then opens it leniently and saves it again, and as a last resort it draws every page that can still be read and rebuilds the file from page images. The result tells you which method worked.
If the last method is used, the pages look the same but the text can no longer be selected. You can add a text layer again with OCR to PDF.
Not every PDF can be repaired. If the page data itself is missing, for example in a file that was cut off early, that content is gone. A password-protected file must be unlocked first.
Repair PDF is free and needs no account. Your file is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
No. If the pages themselves are missing or damaged, they cannot be recovered. The tool says so instead of giving you an empty file.
Only with the last-resort method, which rebuilds pages as images. The first two methods keep the text.
No. The repair runs in your browser.
